For those who wonder what Youthquake was, I'll give more about our clubs, camp, etc. as we go along. But, for one, it is a ministry which would have produced a day-by-day calendar - except only 64 little stories (more like little scenes) got written.
Maybe half the verse that went with them did, but it made more sense to just publish the 100-250 word stories in our old blog. Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4. You can go from there to see all our Quest for Truth Radio posts. (You can hear all our old shows here.)
Things like truth or wisdom seem really big. Sure, there are little nuggets we can get: Each of the 64 stories has a Bible verse which you can find if you look. (Some include it, most have several which can apply.) But, it's clearly more than just a set of rules like "Look both ways before you cross the street."
Why Would One Want Wisdom?
Did you try to say that 5 times fast like I just did? That was the point of using alliteration; it can be fun to try to do that when you see it. But, is that really wisdom?
Well, if you want people to read your blog, you have to get them interested, right? So, you could say that one piece of wisdom for bloggers is, "Use tongue twisters sometimes." Wisdom is really just about how to succeed in life. And, if you want to write a blog you better do things that interest your readers, right?
Whether or not that got you to say it five times fast is another question. The point is, surely someone suggested that once because they saw it worked. (And, if you know a certain joke - replying to something like what I just said with "Stop calling me Shirley" - you'll know the way I said that came from another pearl of wisdom about how you can include some fun things.)
Wisdom is just how to get along in life
These scenes I linked to each have a point. It might be about being nice or helping others or the things to focus on which will help you overcome the world's problems. Wisdom can be some fancy slogan, like "Aim for the stars." It is more often showing how, though - after all, a slogan like that can inspire for a while, but at some point everyone asks, "What does that mean?" Or, to put it like I've heard a lot of young people say lately, "What does that look like?"
"Wait," you say, "not all wisdom can be that fun to learn."
It's true that anything we learn has some fun parts and some not so fun parts. It might be frustration - the constant falling down of a toddler trying to learn to walk. It might be opposition - people saying you can't do something because you're poor or can't talk well or something else. It might be your own self-doubt that holds you back.
Whatever it is, remember I quoted Jesus and how He had overcome the world? (John 16:33) We can be of good cheer because since He did, we can do it through Him.
LIfe itself is going to have struggles. It's tempting to just sit back and play video games sometimes. Or, write poetry or whatever else keeps you from having to deal with all that drama. But, God's Word gives ways to do that which are relevant to you and I and everyone.
That's why we thought about doing that calendar. It's why I wrote those little blurbs, and why I chose to put them up there. God gives everyone grace and mercy and time to repent. So, He isn't going to just end the drama. But, He does promise to give us strength to overcome it.
Because He doesn't want us to be mindless robots, He gives us freedom to choose. But, because He wants us to have peace that passes understanding when we go through rough times, He gives us His Spirit. So whoever calls on Him to save them can call on Him at any time for wisdom, help, guidance, support, strength, and so much more.
An importantpart of wisdom, after all, is knowing we can't do it all ourselves. That might be a relief to some. I know I try too hard sometimes with some things, because I'm so used to overcoming handicaps. But, thankfully, we don't have to rely on our own strength.
God will give you that strength. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you(Heb. 13:5) when you trust Him. Knowing He is always there for you and trusting Him to carry you through is indeed great wisdom.
