A personal God Who Loves, Wants to Forgive and Save You

Just because it’s a big word doesn’t mean it’s true of God, though. Some big words are just medical terms. Or, for instance, transcendent. That word is so odd, you might even think I made it up. But that’s not the curve I’m about to throw.

God is personal; He is NOT transcendent. (You don’t hear many lessons on what God isn’t, huh? And, go ahead, I know a few younger kids are like, “Phew, good, I don’t have to try to say that word anymore.) It’s a word all right; it means supreme, but it’s not the type God is. So, why am I talking about this word?

` It means someone or something is so far above that they can’t be reached and they don’t bother with what’s below. They are disconnected. And, it’s actually a good word to know so you can avoid anyone who preaches it about God.

See, God is not disconnected from us. Even in the Old Testament He was always there. He spoke through prophets, sure, but He was still very involved. He even came to earth in what’s called a pre-incarnate form. “The angel of the Lord” appears to Abraham, wrestles with Jacob, & walks in the cool of the day and later makes clothes for Adam and Eve in Gen. 3, for instance. That’s Jesus before He was born a baby. Want to learn a big word? That’s a theophany, and also a Christophany. (Literally “Christ appearing in flesh.”)

God has always been involved. He appears later to Gideon and others, too. We know it’s not a regular angel for another reason, too. God’s angels forbid people to worship them and say to worship God. The angel of the Lord accepts worship since He is Jesus. The burning bush may have meant Jesus’ appearance was so bright that it appeared that the bush was burning, though an Eternal Flame type of thing is also possible.

Something transcendent has no real connection, though. Take the movie “Brian’s Song” –a great sports movie on its own, based on a true story. (So it’s old, Google to learn about it or even watch it.) Messages – friendship, love for others despite differences, etc – transcend sports; they could have been shown in any setting.

Some say God is that way because they think they can work their way to God or even use it to control others (the way that family I mentioned felt controlled) instead of urging them to go to God, who is personal, for help. It can be very New Age at times, with Eastern thought about everything being a god (pantheism).

Some churches preach this. They don’t encourage people to read the Bible This is why I made a special point of Jesus being the mediator between God and man.(1 Tim. 2:5) We only have to pray to Him. God will always hear our prayers. I if we regard sin in our heart, the Spirit gently nudges the believer to confess & forsake a bad attitude. He is so loving & forgiving. He’s not always angry and vengeful like some transcendence preachers claim. He hates sin but He’s always there to show love and mercy and to comfort, guide, etc.

So, keep showing HIs love & forgiveness to others and telling of it so they can see God is real and trust Him to save them if they haven’t.
