Every Little Bit You Do Matters

We’ve said moving forward in our walk with Jesus means growing in a number of ways. We should grow in our vertical relationship (us with God) and with others. Sometimes it’s hard since we’re all human. But we can rest in this. If you’ve called on Jesus to save you, your relationship with God is forever. And, His love is perfect.

As humans, we can’t be perfect all the time. One thing that helps a lot is laughing at our own flaws. Then we will see more easily that other people have flaws but that just makes them more special. We can have fun with such things, and not feel bad about our differences. Or about doing things that are really goody at times.

One funny example occurred just last week. I had sent one boy, 10,a special message to encourage him since he was starting football in an after-school program, Ohio Tiger Association. I urged him to start being a witness on his team. So his 13YO sister didn't feel left out, I sent her ideas on how to things like music and skits to teach her youngest two brothers skills like reading, letters, numbers, addition, things like that.

Mine were creative, but very, very simple. Spelling words as you walk past the thing if you can’t afford to put stickers with the word on every item. Very simple songs to teach things, like you’d see on Old School sesame Street, etc..

A few days ago, my search for helps led me to discover “The Letter People Channel” on Youtube which is a lot better than I could do. Granted, some of my ideas could have been the start of a 10-15 minute comedy bit like that. But, then I found a cartoon called Animaniacs which came out after the time I’d have been watching. Some of their stuff, like the song with  allthe countries of the world, blew my ideas out of the water.

Of course, the fact that I took time to help with ideas is nice because it is personal. I knew I hadn’t been the first to have the ideas. For all I knew, the family was already using these ideas. But, it was sort of like offering LeBron James basketball shooting tips after he turned pro. 😊

We should care about doing things for others. We should appreciate attempts to help even if they are very small, and say “thank you” when people do things for us, no matter how small those things are. But, there’s another important lesson.

Had I known these other things existed, I still would have shared my ideas. Why? I love helping people. And, I don't compare myself to others. God has a special plan for each of us. That plan can be different for each person. Just because I’m not talented enough to write an Animaniacs song doesn’t mean I can create a letter song to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell.” When Paul tells Timothy “Let no man despise thy youth,” he’s saying, “You’re younger and less experienced than some people. But, you have the Word of God with you. God has given you special skills. Don’t let people put you down. Keep following Jesus and being a Godly preacher and Godly example for others.

Things like the Matthew 18 principle always apply; just like things I shared like kindness, longsuffering (the Fruit of the Spirit meaning patience, etc.) Others are different. Some can deal with certain types of people much better than others. Some struggle with post-traumatic stress or other things they must overcome. They need friends to be there for them, but not everyone is able. Someone who cares for a loved one at home can't usually drop everything and go visit someone, for instance. They’re the ones who need help.

So, we learn to accept each other while working together in that common goal - building up the body of Christ, This means helping believers and bringing non-believers to Jesus. We should build each other up by being thankful and accepting flaws, laughing at our own mistakes, and not comparing ourselves to others, just stivint to be more like Jesus ourselves. Even if that is just by listening. And knowing others often want to help but don’t know how unless we say how.
