Let’s look in a unique way at sharing your faith. You know basic doctrine & to pray God opens doors to share a testimony. Yet, starting conversation is hard for some, and not just due to fear of rejection. Some people share their faith more easily.
Some find it easier to talk, period. Sure, some drop hints like: “I’m glad the Lord brought me through this; I’m so thankful for His love and support.” But the other person might not know what to ask. Conversation can be tricky.
We muddle through, though, when it comes to weather, sports, movies, etc.. So, exposing things or adding info shouldn’t be any harder than saying: “I know, hippos look so cute and too fat to move much. But, they’re one of the deadliest creatures in Africa; they’re really powerful.” Or, “The interesting thing in ‘Annie’ is Tammany Hall was an arm of local government, and likely got Miss Hannigan her job despite her not liking orphans.”
So, like explaining why hippos are more dangerous than they appear (and notice how I acknowledge the other’s feelings, I don’t just say “You’re wrong”), or adding to what someone may have said about government easing the Depression, you can start discussions or share tidbits in them. It’s why reading is so great. If you can’t look up that hippos cause 3,000 deaths a year in Africa, you can deduce that they’re really powerful.
You may wonder what this has to do with sharing the Gospel. Thinking is undervalued. Knowing Jesus means heart knowledge, not just head knowledge. Yet, we need to be able to share things and respond to people. It’s like what I said about Muslims misunderstanding what “Son of God” means. It’s not physical relations. (the Arabic walad). It’s a perfect likeness having al the attributes of the Father. (The Arabic Ibn) I responded kindly to a Muslim who wouldn’t take a tract by asking if I could share a misconception. This let me explain about Sonship and at least plant a seed in his mind. A pastor once told a story of how knowing Cain’s wife is found in Genesis 5:4 let him lead someone to Christ.
That person he led to Christ had been given misinformation about Cain’s wife not being there. (People could marry family with no genetic problems at first.) I doubt the person he heard it from lied on purpose, but it shows we should check facts. Just like the King James Bible in Job 40:15 through Job 41 describes dinosaurs; modern Bibles call behemoth a crocodile or elephant. One more reason Youthquake uses the KJV; had the writers known about dinosaurs they may have called behemoth and leviathan that, not the Hebrew names.
At the same time, you don’t have to be a Creationist to trust Jesus to save you and go to Heaven. That fact just shows one way you can provide information.
Where to begin? You could share a story. It’s fun to be random sometimes. Connect it to a Bible lesson or something if you can. You can just segue way from where you heard it to show how much fun we have. Or, ask how someone is dealing with things. We’ve said often people must see we care for them. Yes, we should show we are not perfect, we’re sinners in need of a Saviour. But our need for peace, love, forgiveness, etc. and how Jesus met it often comes best once we’ve heard others and know how to lead into what they seek.
It’s still God’s simple plan of salvation, though. However you get to it. Admit you’re a sinner – and we’ve all lied, been selfish, etc. at times. Sin separates us from God, but He solved that, so we must Believe Jesus Christ, God in flesh, died to take the punishment for our sins & rose from the dead. Then, Call on Jesus to save you from your sins and make you new inside. A person can do that right away if they haven’t.
